Marquis is a rather big pseudosail motorboat, engineered and produced by an in-game fictional Japanese vehicle-manufacturing company Dinka (which is a parody of a real Japanese Honda company).
Marquis, just like many other boats, appeared for the first time in the Grand Theft Auto series in GTA: Vice City, and since then it made appearance in each new GTA game. Marquis underwent change of a design in the fourth part of GTA - it was turned from a simple leisure boat into a luxury boat, as new additional living compartments were adder underneath the mast. In the fifth part the boat suffered no changes, however there is an additional variant of the boat with no sails.
Sails of Dinka Marquis are entirely cosmetic - they have completely no practical purpose and they are nothing more, than just elements of a style. As it was already mentioned above, in GTA 5 there is a variant of a boat without sails, which doesn't affect the boat's efficiency in any way. Marquis can transport up to 4 passengers (counting in a driver). This boat weights more than twelve tons (12200 kilograms), and it's speed is the lowest among boats - 30 kilometers per hour is the maximum. Well, it is going to accelerate up to it's top speed for a rather big amount of time. It also costs a lot, but it is lore-wise. The only advantage of Dinka Marquis over other boats is that you are very unlikely to success in your quest of overturning it.
Dinka Marquis has no real prototypes and it is entirely a product of Rockstar's imagination.
