P-996 LAZER is a multirole military jet plane/fighter, engineered and manufactured by a non-existing in a real world, fictional in-game company JoBuilt. It is interesting, that JoBuilt is famous for it's trucks and there are only two civilian planes in it's production line, however P-966 is actively used by US Air Force.
JoBuilt P-996 LAZER didn't make it appearance in any previous games of the Grand Theft Auto series. Furthermore, until recently there weren't any decent P-996 LAZER analogues, this is the first military fighter in the history of GTA with an exception of VTOL fighter Hydra, which figured in GTA: San Andreas. The look of the fighter is combined of multiple of different aircraft of General Dynamics and Lockhead Martin. The plane has only one variant of paint job, and when acquired, the player can't repaint it by his/her likings.
JoBuilt P-996 LAZER is made as a part of US Army contract and obviously has the necessary requirements met. JoBuilt P-996 LAZER is, no doubt, the fastest plane in the game and it is the second by acceleration, falling slightly behind before it's training analogue Western Besra (that's probably because of it's somewhat bigger mass due to weapons equipped). The fighter is also one of the most manoeuvrable planes in GTA 5, and it is very sensitive to the player's input (which actually can be a bad thing for an experienced pilot and lead to fatal consequences). Of course, JoBuilt P-996 is a military plane for a reason, and it has weapons capable of dealing with any enemy possible in GTA 5: dual cannons, firing high-explosive rounds, and lock-on missiles. For example, the Rhink tnak can be taken out just by 2 rocket shots.
JoBuilt P-996 is based on real military aircraft, such as: F-35 Lightning II, F-16C Fighting Falcon, Eurofighter Typhoon, F-20 Tigershark.
